An incredible machine
“Create Life” is an interactive sculpture that allows the user an opportunity to create synthetic life. It was done by Robert Kieronski. More of his works can be seen at website: http://www.lumion.net
The piece derives from the Urey-Miller experiment of the ’50s. In that experiment a closed simulation of early earth conditions was successful in producing amino acids, the base chains of life. The user communicates with the reaction through a pinball-like interface, using it to modify reaction parameters. So far, no one has succeeded. But…..just wait ! Something may happen. This piece is at the Newport Art Museum, Newport, RI.”

Pinbattle Royale 2013
My pal Stephen over at the East Bay Pinball League puts on this cool 3-player tag-team tournament. A big change for this year is it will be a 3 strikes format instead of double-elim. Last year was a lot of fun. Entry is capped at 14 teams so pre-registration is encouraged. If you would like to go but don’t have other people to play with, post in the comments and maybe someone else will team up with you.

STAR WARS Pinball Games from Zen Studios
Zen Studios are launching a set of new Star Wars themed pinball tables. They look pretty enough, but I guess we’ll have to see how they play. If they’re in keeping with their previous efforts they should be a lot of fun. The tables are available on a lot of different platforms, which is great, but unfortunately I don’t have any immediate plans to upgrade my home rig to Windows 8. Someone with an iPad, go get this and tell us what you think!

FINALLY!!!
After more than two months of waiting, Rainbow Novelties has finally brought some wonderful machines into Gestalt (16thnear Valencia in the Mission, SF). In addition to Theatre of Magic and Medieval Madness, Addams Family they’ve added two more classic machines: Funhouse and Star Wars (Sega). Please patronize our fellow SF league players Ryan and Justin who have been battling hard to turn this great beer bar into one of the best pinball locations in the Bay Area!
