Rollergames

Rollergames (1990) was based on the show of the same name.  The show was a sports entertainment take on the sport of roller derby, albeit slightly less outrageous than its WWE counterpart.

Check out this clip from the show (with Rollersound!)

Tomorrow Gun Sights

During World War II, pinball manufacturing came to a halt and pinball companies produced different things for the war effort.  During the war years, re-theming existing games became popular.

For example: 1940’s Zombie

became 1942’s Midway.  Images from imdb.com

PRESENT

loveorpinball

So there you are, it’s Valentine’s day dinner with your sweet heart.  Your tie is strangling your neck and the $15 Fennel salad staring back at you is strangling your wallet.  Ain’t no romance without finance, my friends.  Can’t help you there.  But I can turn that February frown around because for that same 15 bucks you can get a full day of pinball, carnival games, history, magic shows and a Pin Golf tournament!

What’s Pingolf?  Pingolf combines the best elements of Pinball and Golf to create the greatest game ever since Calvinball.  In Pin Golf, a goal is posted on the game and your job as the player is to try and accomplish the goal with the fewest number of balls as possible, similar to strokes in golf.

Maybe the goal is to start multiball.  If you do that on your first ball, you got a hole-in-1.  Each game will have different goals, and there will be at least six games to play.

When: Sunday, February 24th, 11 AM start.  Warm-up from 10 – 11:30.  You do not need to show up by 11:30 to play, but no one may enter the main tournament after 1 PM.

What’s the deal with this Playland place? Playland is like a mini Disneyland and has 30+ pinball machines, carnival games and lots more.  See pictures and write-up here.

How do I get there? Driving and directions from BART here.  Playland is about 10 minute’s walk from BART.

What does it cost?  Entry to the tournament is FREE with regular Playland-not-at-the-Beach Admission.  ($15 for adults). There will be a $10 side pot for those who want to play for extra cash.

I’m not sure if I’m good enough… The tournament is open to all skill levels and ages.  There’s both an Expert and Novice division.  Bad attitudes are not tolerated so you’re in good hands.  You’ll learn some new pinball skills and have a fun time!

What’s the story with food?  I’ll be serving up some homemade Nachos and Mac and Cheese.  If you prefer lighter fare please bring a lunch as we’re on a pretty tight schedule. Playland has a fridge, microwave and stove for your convenience.  You can also bring a home-made item to share with five or more people and get a free entry in the side tournament.  Also, if you like ice cream, Playland sells the original Playland treat: Its-It Ice Cream Sandwiches.

Side Tournament?  Details to be determined and depending on volunteers.  If you can help out, email me at jonnynacho@gmail.  Your side tournament entries will be discounted.  Bring a dish AND help out with the side tourney and ALL your side tourney entries are free.

World Pinball Player Ranking (WPPR) Points will be awarded for the main and side tournaments.  That means whether you win or lose, at the end of the day you will be a world-ranked pinball player with official retro-cool credibility!

Prizes and Plaques Awarded

PLEASE NOTE: No passes or discount coupons are allowed for this event.  Use those to practice up!

Momongo Pinball Adventures

January 19, 2013

This game for the Apple platform has been getting a big push in the gaming press.  Momongo takes video pinball in the opposite direction of efforts like Future Pinball and Pinmame, which attempt to simulate real pinball.  Instead, Momongo does what a real pinball can’t do.  Might be worth a look for those of you who have 99 cents to burn.

Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5
