Kimballs 10-9 Results

October 10, 2012

TJ was on point tonight, pretty much wrecking the winners bracket and doing board repairs on White Water at the same time while the rest of flailed away and knocked each other out in the losers bracket, leaving easy meat for TJ at the end.

Unfortunately, that turned out to be me.

It was Andreas birthday so he got hooked up with two free passes, courtesy of Playland-not-at-the-Beach, and first-timer Jeff Fehervari also took one home.  Jeff played solid but got some tough match-ups against experienced players.  I did a quick raffle and Brittany got the 3rd Playland pass.

In the final match it was your’s truly against TJ on Scared Stiff and Simpsons Pinball Party.  We both won one, and our relative scores were close, so it came down to the calculator, and I won it by about a mere 10% to stay in the battle.

In the second game, he made sure no calculator would be needed, and I got treated like a Californian at a gas pump.  Nice work TJ.  See you all next time.

1 Tj Beyer : $28.00
2 Jonny O : $21.00

Tournament at Kimballs, 7pm, Tuesday 10/9

October 8, 2012

Kimballs Carnival, 522 2nd Street in Oakland. $5 entry, plus coin drop.  The current lineup is: Medieval Madness, Scared Stiff, Simpsons Pinball Party, Twilight Zone, ACDC and White Water.

Tomorrow night’s tournament will award World Pinball Player Ranking Points (http://pinballrankings.com).

Additionally, all entrants will receive two coupons good for $5 off entry to Pacific Pinball Museum and Playland-not-at-the-Beach.  I also have some Playland passes to raffle off.

The format is Double-Elimination Time Attack.

Double-elimination means you must lose two matches in order to be knocked out of the tournament.

In each Match, two players are assigned two games.  The clock is started and the players try to achieve the best score possible, write down their scores for their opponent to see, and then switch games.  They then play a second 2-minute game.

The winner either wins both games outright, or if each player wins one game then the winner is the player whose winning game was better.

Example:

Nina wins the match because her winning game was better than Zoe’s winning game.

The calculation is 1 – (lowerscore/higherscore).  If you’re not math-inclined we’ll help you out.

Reminder: No outside food or drinks at Kimballs (I recommend the $5 pizza or the Quesadilla)

October 5, 2012

The fine fellas at the Professional and Amateur Pinball Association (http://papa.org/blog/) just posted another one of their tutorials. Unlike the third Spiderman film, it doesn’t suck.
