The longest running pinball show in the Bay Area returns from May 18 – May 20.  I’ve been privy to some of the details and it sounds like the new show organizers are working hard to make it better than ever with lots of new features.

Don’t forget there’s a Pin Golf tournament on Saturday with all proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Sacramento, and the Dixon Teen Center.

Plan to stay later than usual on Sunday because the organizers are working to make sure there’s plenty to play until the end of the show, including ACDC Premium Edition.

Dixon is located about one hour’s drive from SF/Oakland, and about half an hour west of Sacramento.

One thing I’ve always said about video pinball is forget trying to emulate the real thing.  Just go nuts doing all the things a real pinball couldn’t ever do.

It was a good time at Vitus on Wednesday, but definitely a learning experience for me on time management.

Qualifiers finished up early at about 8:30 and despite I was on little sleep, I foolishly made the call to allow the top 12 (instead of 8) players to qualify.  Top 4 got a bye to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, the tougher goals in the playoffs made the event run much longer and we didn’t end up finishing until 1 AM!  Oops!  Normally we wrap up around 10:30 or 11.  Lesson learned!

One of the most enjoyable aspects of running these ongoing tournaments has been watching the regular players improve.  Back in November, the winner of this tournament tied for last place.  Congrats to Darren Ensley for playing solid and winning his first tournament!

Format: Pin Golf!

How’s it work?  In Pin Golf, goals are posted on the machine.  For example: score 10 Million on Medieval Madness, or Start Multiball on Twilight Zone.  Your job is to complete the goal using the fewest number of pinballs as possible (like strokes in golf).   You’ll play 3 holes, and your score across the three holes determines if you move on to the playoffs.
