[Selfie League]

A selfie league has a long qualifying period that you play on your own. Then a Final is held where we all meet and play in person. Anyone is welcome to participate. You don’t need to be a member of the Pacific Pinball League. You can also participate just for fun, even if you can’t or don’t want to play in the Final. You can start submitting scores at any time during the qualifying period.

The current selfie league season is not IFPA-sanctioned. Future seasons might be.

  • When:
    • Play games on your own schedule from now until 12/10. Submit scores until 6:30 PM on 12/10.
    • Start playing anytime. Even right before Finals.
    • Finals are on Social Night 12/10 from 7 – 10 PM. Check in for Finals by 6:45 PM in person.
  • How it works:
    • Take a selfie of yourself with your score in the background
    • Submit to the matchplay site HERE. You must supply an email in case we have a question about a score.
    • Your score will be validated within a day or two.
    • You can play extra balls
    • ONLY scores submitted through MatchPlay count. No scores via email, etc.
    • Your top 6 games count toward your ranking
    • You can play each game as many times as you want to improve your score
    • Only your best score on each game counts
    • Submit your score within 24 hours of taking it. No “hoarding” of scores.
    • Rollover Scores don’t count since there’s no way to validate them. And no, “So-and-so saw me get it” doesn’t count.
    • However, if the selfie format includes electro-mechanical games, a “rollover” light such as a 100k light is valid. Example: a game scores up to 99,999, but has a 100k light. The best possible score is 199,999. Otherwise, get as close to the rollover amount as you can and take a pic (tilt out if needed to prevent bonus from putting you over!).
    • Points are awarded as follows: 30 points for 1st, 29 points for 2nd, etc. Therefore, the best possible score is 180 (6 games x 30 points)
    • Yes, people can knock you down in the rankings and lower your points.
  • Tips!
    • Tip: Make sure you get a good pic of you and your score! If we can’t read it, or you’re not clearly identifiable, it won’t be accepted. Watch out for glare on the backglass. No blurry pics. 100k lights or similar must clearly be lit.
    • If you get an error trying to upload your score, your pic is probably too big. Take a picture with lower resolution settings, or resize it. If you don’t know how to do that, look it up on google.
    • If your score still has an issue, DM me via the FB/Messenger, or email jonnynacho@gmail
    • A worse score won’t hurt you – just don’t submit it. If you enter it accidentally, it won’t replace your best score. The software will see that’s it’s lower.
  • Finals
    • Finals is Matchplay format with 7-5-3-1 scoring.
    • Qualifying Advantages:
      • Your ranking determines your seed in Finals. In the first round of Finals, the highest seeds play the lowest and with position advantage, giving you the best chances for an early win.
      • Also, in subsequent rounds you play later position in each game, so you’ll know the score to beat going into your final ball and can adjust strategy accordingly.
      • For any ties in Finals the higher seed will win the tie-break.
    • Finals will be played on the same games as qualifying, unless a game is broken or we need additional games due to the number of players.
    • In Finals, unlike Qualifying, extra balls are plunged out. You can use the flipper buttons before plunging (to change options, lit skill shot lanes, check Instant Info, etc.). You can also “skill plunge” the ball by varying plunge strength to hit a target or lane, and can continue to do so if the ball rolls back down the shooter lane. Once the ball is launched and enters the main playfield, it’s “hands off”.

If the game has a ball save with an automatic ball launcher, the player may “cheat the plunge”, meaning, skill plunge before the auto-plunge launches the ball.

A small number of games require manual plunging after a ball save (example: Creature from the Black Lagoon). The player can continue to skill plunge until all ball saves are used up.

This rule also applies to all games where not hitting a playfield switch returns the ball to the player.
  • For fastest resolution report game problems to the PPM Desk.
  • Special League Night Rule:
Once we call league players to the back, you must abandon the game in progress (plan your time accordingly). You can plunge out remaining balls and submit the score you got up to that point.
Scores achieved during league may be submitted for EM and Solid State games. NOT for Modern games due to time constraints.
