50 years ago Williams tried to redesign the cabinet to make them more drink and cigarette friendly. Notice the shelf in front of the game, and if you look closely, you can see a built in cigarette holder.

Seems like even in ancient times, casual players were leaving their beer bottles on the pins. They’re not coffee tables for crying out loud.
