Retro Pics – PAPA 4
Head over to the PAPA blog and check out a recently un-cached collection of PAPA 4 pictures, along with an interview of the winner, Bowen Kerins. Bowen Kerins was attending Stanford at the time.

Even thought PAPA 15 is coming up in just a couple months, that doesn’t mean that PAPA 4 took place 11 years ago. There were multi-year gaps during which no PAPA was held, so PAPA 4 was nearly 20 years ago, in 1994.
Hal Erickson, another bay area player, also played at PAPA that year and made the top four in A Division.
Vitus WPPR points adjusted for 2011

(Reminder: Next tournament is 7/3 and the 7/17 vitus tournament will award wpprs)
As some of you are aware, leagues and “ongoing tournaments” like I run at Vitus “share” WPPR points. Last year there were two wppr-eligible tournaments at Vitus and there was one so far this year (not including the launch party). However, IFPA allocated points to those events based on the default assumption of there being four events per year (i.e. each allocated 1/4th of the total estimated points). Since we only had two events last year, that caused the players to lose half their points. This has been adjusted, so some of you can expect to see a decent bump.

For 2012 and the foreseeable future, I’ve decided to have three wppr-eligible tournaments per year among the twice-per-month tournaments. That means first place should be worth around 8 – 10 wpprs, which I feel is still significant and will make a difference to all players except maybe Tim, Andrei, and Neil.
Launch parties get separate points (share with other BA launch parties) and special events, such as if we hold a “big” tournament at Vitus, are separate.

Anchor Beer Commercial
“A spot for Anchor Beer, starring Korean pop and film superstar Rain (Ninja Assassin, Speed Racer). Production and post was undertaken in house at Emerald City.
After working on the Force of a Lion campaign for ABC Stout, Emerald City and it’s Director Chris Godfrey teamed up with Singapore agency Alchemy Partnership for this major campaign.
The brief was to turn a city into a giant pinball machine, with Rain putting on a spectacular show of stunts, truck crashes, and a cityscape that lights up the night sky, in a larger than life game. Filming was undertaken in Seoul, Korea in June of this year, with design and post completed in Sydney.
The spot is a combination of live action scenes and a fantasy metropolis built in CG. Emerald worked very closely with the creative team at Alchemy Partnership to realize the vision, and bring the dynamic and colourful city to life.”
